Think All Natural Flea & Tick Remedies Are Safe? Think Again.

Bug Season Shouldn’t Keep You Indoors

There’s nothing better than spending time outside with your dog.

Whether you’re hiking forest trails, camping for the weekend, fishing at the lake, playing a round of golf, or simply enjoying your daily walk, outdoor adventures are part of an active lifestyle.

Unfortunately, so are ticks, mosquitoes, fleas, flies, and other biting bugs.

If you’ve searched online for natural flea and tick remedies, you’ve probably come across dozens of DIY suggestions—from garlic and apple cider vinegar to homemade essential-oil mixtures.

But here’s the problem:

Natural doesn’t automatically mean safe—or effective.

At Myco Pet, we believe outdoor products should begin with science, quality ingredients, and thoughtful formulation—not internet trends.

Why “Natural” Doesn’t Always Mean Safe

Many DIY remedies become popular because they sound simple and natural. However, every ingredient should be considered based on its concentration, intended use, and scientific evidence.

Take garlic, for example.

Garlic is often recommended online as a natural flea and tick remedy for dogs. However, a study titled Hematologic Changes Associated with the Appearance of Eccentrocytes After Intragastric Administration of Garlic Extract to Dogs found that garlic extract caused oxidative changes in canine red blood cells under the study conditions.

That doesn’t mean every naturally derived ingredient is unsafe. It means the word natural alone tells us very little about whether an ingredient is appropriate.

The same principle applies to essential oils.

Applying undiluted or homemade essential-oil mixtures is very different from using a botanical product developed with carefully selected ingredients and controlled concentrations.

What Does Science Say About Botanical Ingredients?

Scientists continue to study plant-derived compounds and their potential role in outdoor insect management.

A scientific review titled Repellent Activity of Essential Oils: A Review examined a wide range of essential oils and identified several plant compounds with demonstrated activity against arthropods. The review highlighted plant groups including eucalyptus and lemongrass among those frequently studied for this purpose.

Geranium has also attracted scientific interest. In the study Bioactivity-Guided Investigation of Geranium Essential Oils as Natural Tick Repellents, all ten geranium oils evaluated showed activity against lone star tick nymphs in a laboratory bioassay.

A broader review, Botanical Insecticides in the Twenty-First Century—Fulfilling Their Promise?, explains that scientific interest in plant-based insect-management compounds has continued to grow, while also emphasizing the importance of product development and performance testing.

The takeaway is simple:

The individual ingredient matters, but so do its concentration, formulation, and intended use.

Why We Created Outdoor for Dogs and Humans

Think about your next outdoor adventure.

You may be packing water, treats, a leash, hiking gear, fishing equipment, or golf clubs. The last thing you need is a separate outdoor spray for every member of the family.

We wanted to simplify the routine.

Outdoor was developed as one convenient, plant-based spray for dogs and humans.

Whether you’re exploring a trail, relaxing at the cottage, fishing beside the lake, enjoying a camping weekend, or playing a round of golf, Outdoor was made to come along.

Because your adventures are shared.

Your outdoor routine should be too.

A Smarter Approach to Outdoor Wellness

At Myco Pet, we don’t believe a product is automatically better simply because it is labelled natural.

We care about what is inside it, why each ingredient was selected, and how the finished formulation fits into real life.

Outdoor reflects that philosophy by combining carefully selected botanical ingredients in a convenient spray made for everyday outdoor activities.

Ready for Your Next Adventure?

Whether you’re heading out for a morning walk, spending the weekend camping, fishing at your favourite lake, playing 18 holes, or exploring a new trail, Outdoor was designed to go with you.

One bottle.

Dogs + humans.

Plant-based outdoor support for bug season.

Made for the adventures you share.
